Details
While we can't narrow the date of manufacture to a specific year, we are fairly confident that this Peterson System Standard 309 bent billiard estate pipe, often called the Rathbone billiard based on the actor who smoked the shape while making movies for Universal, has at least four or five decades under its smoking belt. Peterson discontinued the shape around 2013 and has since brought what they call a Dutch Billiard back to production, though the shaping is different. This bent and tall billiard has a deep and slightly tapered chamber. Finished smooth, the patina has definitely darkened over time. Bent enough to make a great clencher, this uniquely shaped example of Peterson's long history is still in outstanding condition and although the draw is narrower than most modern handmade briars, it is smooth and capable of any favorite and tongue friendly blend.
