Deeply bent and finished smooth with an impressive array of birdseye resulting from the cross-grain orientation, this GBD New Standard bent and saddled billiard estate pipe is from after the second World War but long before the merger with the Cadogan Group in 1980. In addition to the tightly packed grain there is a smooth bevel along the rim into the deep and wide chamber providing plenty of room for a broad cut leaf or tongue friendly blend of choice. There was some slight charring discovered after reaming out the bowl so a sodium silicate coating has been added to ensure generations more enjoyment without issue. There is a whisper of rim darkening but otherwise this English icon of clenching potential is in outstanding condition.
