Details
An interesting pipe, this GBD Century estate pipe was likely made in the late 1960s or possibly the early 70s, before the merger with the Cadogan Group. At some point its stem was replaced with the saddle mouthpiece seen here. Additionally, after being sold it was fitted with a silver repair band that caps the shank facing, which isn't so unusual. What's interesting is that the silver is stamped with the C.P.F. of the Colossus Pipe Factory, one of the first major manufacturers of pipes in the United States and precursor to the Kauffman Brothers & Bondy company of KB&B fame. It is likely this silver was stamped before 1915 and went unused until being attached to this briar much later in the century. There is also some rim darkening along the steep bevel into the chamber but this English briar, likely repaired in the Newark area, is still in fine smoking condition.
