Smooth, well grained, and blessed with a straight orientation, this Butz-Choquin Flamme Major estate pipe hails from the Saint Claude factory in France, birthplace of the briar pipe. Thick in the wall but vast in the chamber, this wide smoker has a muscular shank and a saddle to keep the weight to a minimum. In excellent condition, save a patch of minor rim darkening toward the back of the bowl, this pot smoker from France has a smooth open draw.
