We aren't entirely sure if the silver band was a repair or an after market modification done upon request for purely aesthetic reasons, a practice not uncommon for pipes of this age. We can't identify anything specific in the mortice or shank to indicate any kind of damage which either means the work was incredibly well done, or just added to for fun. Whatever the case this Astley's billiard sitter from England has a proud and sturdy bearing with a muscular shank and large thick bowl for the slow enjoyment of almost any favorite blend, though this English briar will be easy to create a larger ember. There is some darkening along the back of the rim, but this sitter is still in outstanding condition.
