At just over four and a quarter inches this handmade and sandblasted tomato from German carver, Dirk Heinemann, will never be called a large pipe. Despite the scale and as is usual for the Architect, this narrow and shallow chambered briar is full of details worthy of any hand crafted smoker. The smooth bevel on top of the rim over the plump bowl with a transition to a teardrop shank, also faced with smooth and polished wood, is both asymmetrical and perfectly balanced, capturing the scope of proportion beyond just the measured middle. While other artists who work in briar's medium have mined the depths of neo-danish shape and style, Dirk's work boasts a true heartbeat in the concert of lines and swells, even apparent in his smaller smokers.
