Details
Pipemaker, Jack Weinberger, was one of the first American carvers to apply both an artistic license and a meticulous obsession for quality engineering into his craft. Many have come along since, but this American freehand estate pipe is a unique specimen of excellent briar and his work. The bottom of the bowl, either a gear or sunburst design, is certainly unusual and a quarter of the left side is carved into a rustic finish. The tall chamber is cylindrical and the draft simply couldn't be drilled any better, spot on at the bottom and marvelously smooth for such a massive bowl without being to open and unmanageable. Each peg, or gear, does combine to make it easy to set the pipe down on a flat surface, though not sturdy enough to survive a bump in the table. There is some rim darkening across the back of the plateau, but this older American handmade is in outstanding position and with so much capacity, a long session smoker promising a consistent draw from dinner until bed. Note that this pipe comes with its original sleeve.
