David S. Huber Pipe Black Blast Three Panel Freehand Sitter

David's very innovative and compelling design comes to a head with this remarkable sculpture of briar turned smoking implement.  While the three panel name might be confusing, take a moment and note that there are two planes that meet and wrap around each other, while a third serves as a smooth base on which the whole piece is balanced.  David has been pushing the envelope in two directions with his carving, doing something different with the lines of seam and maintaining an asymmetrical balance while chasing the grain.  This concept is adaptive to many shapes, but this specimen executes them with terrific skill and precision.  With a sculpted crown that reverberates the shank's curve, and fits flush, this showpiece is a game changer in artisan pipe collecting.
