There is no confusion about what is stamped on this Dunhill Shell Briar estate pipe, but the group 4 designation is a bit of a stretch. This moderately sized and beautifully sandblasted bent billiard from England is closer to a 3.2. Tapered from the bowl through the saddle and light enough to keep clenched all day, this marvelous and classic shaped clencher has been well loved and has suffered some charring at the bottom of the chamber next to the draft hole so a sodium silicate coating has been added to ensure no future issues will occur. Otherwise in fine shape with a good draw easily able to tease out all the nuanced flavor of a native English or strong Balkan blend.
