Late artisan carver R.C. Sands may have been known best for making honest, thick walled, smokers, but many have overlooked his attention to detail, especially on his smooth finishes. Examining this squat dublin, you can see that the grain orientation is nearly perfect. That doesn't happen by chance, but is rather a deliberate effort by the artist. Chuck loved the mystery and beauty of this finely grained wood, and it shows in this pipe. Longer and large enough to feel like a substantial pipe, but not obnoxiously so, the bowl proportions are going to be best for Englishes and burleys, but could certainly handle any blend with aplomb. The reverse tapered shank is crowned with an ebonite stem, opened up for a smooth draw, so we know this beauty will be an excellent smoker.
