Bill Shalosky Pipe 350 Large Billiard with French Boxwood Ring

Details
This very full billiard is unmistakably Bill's work. The proportions are very masculine and typify the vanguard of the American school of design. The ring at the end of the shank is french boxwood and the stem, German ebonite. With such a large stummel for a canvas, the high contrast, honey chocolate finish is a stunning array of cross grain and birdseye. I have been fortunate enough to handle many of Bill's pipes and the thing that always gets me is his ridiculous attention to every detail - especially in the mortise and draft - as smooth inside as it is on the surface. Also impressive is the way the transition from bowl to shank is tighter at the top, but loosens consistently and symmetrically as it wraps to the flat line at the bottom. Rounded on the rim and proportioned with a saddle stem, this heirloom piece will smoke well for generations.
