This Johs apple estate pipe was produced for the 1991 Frederikshavn Pipe Smoking Championship in Denmark. As expected of a contest pipe, the drilling is spot on with a wide chamber and a smooth draw. There is a slim band of acrylic decorating the end of the shank and the steeply tapered stem has a slight bend to its sweeping profile. The blasted finish is pretty tight though there are growth rings present indicating a good specimen of briar that was introduced to the finish method with less pressure than we typically see in today's production. There is some darkening at the rim but otherwise this Danish contest smoker is in outstanding condition and promises flavorful work with any favorite tobacco.
